Impeach Robert Gates

From today’s Washington Post:

Russian behavior in Georgia has “called into question the entire premise” of relations between Washington and Moscow, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said yesterday, even as the Bush administration appeared willing to let Russia take its time removing its forces from disputed areas inside the former Soviet republic.

Why is this man allowed to speak on this matter? If any people in the Federal government has any reason — and right — to comment on the Russo-Georgian conflict, they’re President Bush and Secretary Rice. This is patently not a matter for the Department of Defense, and that Secretary Gates believes that angering the bear, so to speak, in such a manner is appropriate absolutely appalls me. We only harm our national interest by interfering in matters not appurtenant to our concerns, particularly when we mess with as potential threatening a figure as Russia.
