Does Joe Biden understand the Constitution?

Under the Constitution, same-sex couples have the right to hospital visits?

I have no interest in intolerant gay-related politics, but where, Senator Biden, is the in the Constitution? I’ve read that great document, but I have no idea where the Constitution even touches on it.

  1. No offense, but have you ever heard of Bill of Rights? Amendment 14? Yes? Read it again. No? Let me quote it for you:

    Amendment 14 – Citizenship Rights. Ratified 7/9/1868.

    1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. NO STATE SHALL MAKE OR ENFORCE ANY LAW WHICH SHALL ABRIDGE THE PRIVILEGES OR IMMUNITIES OF CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES; NOR SHALL ANY STATE DEPRIVE ANY PERSON OF LIFE, LIBERTY, OR PROPERTY, (emphasis mine) without due process of law; NOR DENY TO ANY PERSON WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION THE EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS (emphasis mine).

    You raised a really good point; I certainly agree. _However_, the Fourteenth Amendment, I suspect, is hardly what Biden meant; or, I should, I suspect that he meant _more_ than that. Nonetheless, you have a reasonable point, and I think that it’s generally on-point.

  3. Okay, now that I’m not drunk, allow me to retract the last comment.

    Nothing in the Bill of Rights suggests the right to same-sex-couple hospital visits; nor in the Fourteenth Amendment (which, coincidentally, is not part of the Bill of Rights). None of the clauses that emphasize evince anything of this nature. The privileges or immunities presumably under consideration had nothing to do with this matter, and to stretch them so requires the same sort of judicial nonsense, it seems, that Roe involved. Life and liberty are hardly such base, banal matters as to be applied easily to something so relatively trivial and meaningless as hospital visitation rights.

    The modern leftist culture has done an impressive amount of damage to sensible understanding of the Constitution. Why, in fact, the left, well, they’ve done as much to destroy it as has the right!

    No state, the quoted amendment dictates, can abridge rights possessed as citizens of the nation; unless we have some shared-across-state-boundaries right to same-sex visitation, which we haven’t, then this citation of yours is completely irrelevant, which it is.
